Internships

Searching for an internship that provides hands-on actuarial experience, analytical skill development, and mentorship? Entry-level opportunities

Become an essential source of data analysis and decision-making when you take part in the Actuarial Development Program. Grasp key business drivers and hone your technical and leadership skills through three 18-month assignments. We also support your preparation with becoming a credentialed actuary in the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Program includes:

Exposure to several functions across Liberty Mutual, including modeling, pricing, reserving and analytics for both commercial or personal lines
Preparation for actuarial exams

eCLIQ Farm Pricing

After years of offering multiple farm insurance products through various platforms, eCLIQ was created to be a single underwriting platform for small businesses, featuring one premiere Farm insurance product, nationwide. This new platform/product is more user-friendly, and offers more flexible coverage options, allowing us to better-serve our customers.

Profitability Analytics

The Profitability Analytics project is a modernization of our data reporting and analytics processes for the business lines. This cross-functional initiative used modern technologies to create a robust and scalable database that unites data sources from across the organization and enables our users to focus on driving business value with actionable insights.

Large Account Pricing

A tool was needed to increase the sophistication of current pricing methodology for auto fleet lines in Latin America. Leveraging Excel, VBA, SAS and SQL, a recent intern was tasked with developing premium and pricing simulations, forecasting losses and exposures, and building a customizable tool that can be replicated by other lines of business.

Pricing in the Sharing Economy

The sharing economy continues to grow, and program participants have been at the forefront of pricing accounts in this peer-to-peer economic system. But, what happens when Actuaries have little-to-no data? Our interns jump right in to create pricing templates using broader benchmark data to automatically price accounts, simultaneously strengthening their technical skills and insurance knowledge.

Catastrophe Reserving

Working from the day that a catastrophe is declared though a quarterly reserve analysis, one recent program participant worked to analyze the actual and expected severity of past events to identify variables that can help to create more account projections. This project provided insight into established models and allowed projections to be reported out to senior leadership with more accuracy.

I began my time at Liberty in the Actuarial Internship Program and learned so much in just three short months. The following summer, I interned at a life insurance company to experience something different, but it only solidified my desire to return to Liberty. My time in the Actuarial Development Program has been invaluable, and all my rotations have had a real business impact. My managers have always made my study time a priority, which has allowed me to progress toward the FCAS designation. But my favorite part about working at Liberty is the network of people that have helped me grow and develop.
