Honoring military service members and veterans

More than 400,000 service members enter the civilian workforce each year, and we celebrate all they have to offer with benefits and programs that help them build fulfilling careers. Learn more.

Dawn Frazier-Bohnert

Executive Vice President, Global Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer

“Growing up in a military family where both my father and brother served our country, I understand the unique insights and skills military service members and veterans bring to the workplace. It’s one of the reasons we strive to create a flexible, inclusive workplace where all employees can feel they belong. We want active military and veterans to see Liberty as a place where they can stay and grow their careers because their unique backgrounds and capabilities are valued.”

Recognition and Support
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Award Suite

Established by The Department of Defense in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve members and their civilian employers. The ESGR provides different levels of recognition to employers through employee nominations of individual leaders or allies who provide support directly to a nominating service member or spouse of a Reservist or Guardsman

  • ESGR Patriot Employer Award: Since 2017, members of Liberty Mutual’s leadership community have been recognized multiple times with the ESGR Patriotic Employer Award. Presented to civilian supervisors, Patriot Employer Award recognizes efforts made by managers to support military, veteran and ally employees. Liberty leaders also signed a statement of support of the ESGR.
  • ESGR Employer Appreciation Day: Liberty Mutual was recognized as a participating employer in this ESGR event designed to inform and educate employers on the important roles uniformed employees play in both their civilian and military capacities.
  • Pro Patria Award: In 2018, Liberty Mutual was honored with the Massachusetts Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Pro Patria Award in the Large Business Category. The highest level of award bestowed by an ESGR State Committee, the Pro Patria Award, recognizes a company’s extraordinary support for its Guard and Reserve employees through leadership and practices, including policies that enable employees to simultaneously manage a full-time civilian job and service to our country.
Military Friendly Employer

Liberty Mutual has consistently earned the Military Friendly® Employer designation since 2017. This is determined by combining an organization’s survey score with an assessment of the organization’s ability to meet thresholds for Applicant, New Hire Retention, Employee Turnover, and Promotion & Advancement of veterans and military employees. Each year, the list of Military Friendly® Employers is provided to service members and their families, helping them discover the best post-military career opportunities available.

Military Times:
Best for Vets Employer 2021

Liberty Mutual was of over one hundred companies recognized by Military Times as Best for Vets in 2021, as well as in 2020. The annual survey is a highly respected analysis of a company’s efforts to connect with veterans and provide an environment for success. Rankings are based on a voluntary survey seeking detailed information on individual company policies and practices related to: veteran recruitment and retention, support for translation of military skills to civilian credentials, support for military spouse employment and accommodations for members of the National Guard and reserves.

Veteran and Military Community Service

Liberty Mutual has also provided $300,000 to Community Rowing since 2013, an organization that offers free programs to veterans.

Liberty Mutual Foundation has made significant contributions to military causes including a $200,000 grant to Hope for the Warriors – a non-profit committed to supporting veterans and military families and a $50,000 grant to No One Left Behind – a nationwide association dedicated to supporting allies and interpreters from Iraq and Afghanistan.

In addition, Liberty Mutual employees have been donating to veterans’ organizations across the country since 2008, and combined with the company’s matched contributions, these make a significant impact. To learn more about Liberty Mutual’s Philanthropic efforts, visit our corporate site.
