Open to candidates looking for internships and entry-level opportunities, our TechStart program puts you at the center of a collaborative learning environment, where Agile Scrum methodologies are applied to hone your skills in object-oriented programming, cloud technologies, data management, cybersecurity, and more. TechStart is not just a learning exercise—it’s also an opportunity to make a powerful impact on our organization and customers.

Internships & co-ops

Internship: 11 weeks (Summer)
Co-Op: 6 month assignment (Fall and Spring)

Our intern and co-op TechStart programs provide an excellent opportunity to gain immersive, hands-on experience. During these assignments, you and your technical team will learn and apply valuable skills to real challenges in need of innovative solutions. Your work can have a positive impact on our organization and your future as successful interns are often offered full-time opportunities upon completion of their assignments.

Entry-level opportunities

As a gateway into the Technology organization, our entry-level talent participates in a six-month TechStart Program. In this program, you’ll gain strong technical training as together we zero in on your desired career path and the skill-set you’ll need to succeed. Better yet, the program’s team environment and emphasis on Agile Scrum methodologies mean you’ll have the opportunity to build skills while networking with peers and building relationships that will span your career.

Program phases include:

Orientation & Training – Three days of orientation followed by four weeks of technical training
Team Assignment – A five-month team project undertaken with your peers

Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll be able to join one of our exciting Technology teams and gain exposure to emerging technologies within disciplines such as software engineering, cybersecurity, data, configuration, and infrastructure.

Do Not Contact API

During this TechStart assignment, a team of four built a tool that checks federal, state, and internal Do-Not-Contact lists to prevent marketing calls that could incur fines of up to $1,500 per violation. They developed a backend API in TypeScript using AWS services such as Lambdas, DynamoDBs, and Step Functions to flag numbers and indicate to agents whether a number may be contacted or not.

Legal Intake and Management App

This TechStart team worked on LIAM, an internal application used by our licensing teams to manage emails and track licensing requests. As part of the team assignment, thei goal was to enhance LIAM by enabling support for multiple legal teams (multi-tenancy), making it possible for several users to work on licensing requests simultaneously (parallel workflow), and adding features for collaborative editing and sharing of documents.

Actuarial Dashboard

This TechStart team developed a dashboard for actuaries that streamlines and simplifies the filtering and searching of historical model data, enabling easier comparison of existing models and data accessibility for our developers. They collaboratively delivered a full-stack solution from the ground-up by implementing secure authentication, integrating with internal APIs, and fully planning, designing, and developing the frontend ourselves using Angular and our internal Fluid design library. One favorite aspect of the project was having creative freedom to develop the dashboard as they desired and getting feedback along the way from the leadership team.

There's a lot to learn in the field of tech but the Techstart program was a great introduction to the field and provided valuable hands-on experience through ITT and the team assignment. It offered me the chance to gain exposure to an agile environment and introduced me to a variety of technologies.
